Timber!!!! Fallen Trees are great structure to fish during the winter ice fishing season.

Ice Fishing in Alaska can either be feast or famine. Knowing what to look for can be essential in catching big fish. One point of interest for me is always scouring the shoreline for fallen timber that has laid over and is now partially frozen in the ice. These trees make great habitat for baitfish, snails, and smaller fish by which the big fish feeds. The next time you are Ice Fishing here in Alaska, look around and find a tree that is frozen in the water. Be strategic when placing your holes so your don't put your auger through a branch or make it overly difficult to get a fish out of the tree. Stay on the perimeter. You will be pleasantly surprised at the results.
